7 questions you need to ask yourself every morning if you want to be happy

We all want happiness, even though if asked, many of us can’t actually define what is happiness. Is happiness having a problem free life? Is it having bucket loads of money? Well, it’s neither, because people with problems can still be happy and people with loads of money can still be sad, and that’s because happiness is a choice and it doesn’t come from tangible things, it comes from within. If you start your day, every day, with a few simple, yet searching, questions of yourself, then you too can begin to promote that happiness from within and here are some examples that you might want to try:

1. Who do I love?

First thing in the morning is the worst time of the day, if you’re feeling low. That’s when all the bad and depressing thoughts come flooding back to you. So, if you want to be happy, instead of letting those thoughts rule your morning, think of the people that you love in your life.  Think about your family, your friends, even your pets. They are far more important than any problems, aren’t they?

2. What am I grateful for?

If you want to be happy, remind yourself of the things that you are grateful for and start at the very basic ones; you have a roof over your head, you had food to eat yesterday, you have a job…and then work your way up. Many people don’t have even these basics, so you do really have things to be grateful for, when you think about it. A couple of minute session of gratitude every morning will help you start your day on a positive and happy note.

3. What will I do to enjoy myself today?

If you want to be happy, ask yourself this question: ‘What will I do to enjoy myself today?’ There’s no point in waking up and thinking about the jobs you have to do today or the difficulties that you are going to have to deal with, they will still be there, whether you worry about them or not. Instead, plan how you are going to have fun today, how you are going to fit some simple pleasures into your busy schedule. Concentrate on what you can look forward to enjoying, rather than just the things that you have to do. This simple question will make the day seem a whole lot more worthwhile.

4. Remind yourself why you get up and go to work

Remember that going to work is just a means to an end and not the end in itself. People who live and die for work are rarely truly happy, they get so consumed in it that it takes over their entire life, so think about the holiday that you are saving for, the presents that you want to buy your kids or loved ones, or the new dress that you have been looking at, and going to work won’t seem so bad.

5. What are my goals for the day?

Stop right there! We’re not talking about the goals that your boss or someone else wants you to achieve, we’re talking about the goals that you want to achieve. You should have just three real aims for the day: one is to enjoy yourself, the other is to improve yourself, and the third one should go to direction of getting closer to the accomplishment of your dream, the rest will fit in around that. You can’t expect to make great strides in these objectives every day, but you should be planning on, at least, a couple of little steps.

6. Who else can I make happy today?

Happiness breeds happiness and if you can spread a little of it around every day, you will feel far happier in yourself as well. If you want to be happy yourself, think a while about who you can help or cheer up a bit today. It could be that just a quick phone call to a family member who is on their own, it will make that person’s day or that by giving someone at work, who is struggling, a few simple words of encouragement to keep them motivated. It doesn’t take a lot to squeeze a bit of generosity into your day.

7. How will I make the most of this day?

Yesterday had gone and tomorrow never comes, so there is really only today that you have to worry about. If you want to be happy, there is no other time than today. Focus on being happy today, you will never get another, and be sure to make the absolute best of the day that you can, so that by the end of the day, you can sit back, relax and tell yourself: ‘Yep, that was a good one!’
